Ways to trigger meditation

Sheel gave me lots of ways to trigger meditation……………………………

She said,

“listen

chant and listen

study a beautiful thing

observe your thoughts as though they were fishes in the sea

remember something wonderful

hold something and intuit it

repeat any pleasing sound

repeat the name of your mediator

sing a song as quietly as possible whilst listening

imagine a whole pleasing episode through visualisation

read a sentence – uplifting – and think through every word

count to one, then one two, then one two three etc.till 20

select a bright coloured thing and breathe in the colour

study the flickering of a candle

cloud watch

smell something with great discrimination then recall it

remember smells

remember faces or people from long ago

listen to a meditational tape

look at the back of your eyelids

have a conversation with your internal organs

study a picture finely and recall it

count your breathing

draw your breath in through the back of the nose

regulate your breathing

listen to the ringing of your ears

repeat om or “hu” 3 times and then listen to the echo

listen to a metronome or clock ticking

relax each muscle from head to toe or toe to head

allow your inner angel to take you on a trip

imagine building a glass house of all the colours

go under the sea with a dolphin

above all, have fun – be nourished………

There is no one-way to meditate – every person should discover his own way – it is part of the adventure.

Prayer is not the same as meditation. Prayer should include a tithe – a passing on to others of the gifts being requested by the prayer.

Meditation is not prayer. It is the moment when the awareness of self is forgotten and the mind is cleared, the garden weeded.

Meditation starts with the effort to control the mind and to clear the garden of thought weeds.”
